I can be the first person to admit that I had no idea how I would go about writing a vision statement for my teaching business. I didn’t even know what a vision statement was. But after listening to many podcasts, audible books (you know their my jam) and beginner lessons from my business coach, a VISION is what has to be done first and is essentially one of the most important, if not the most important, part of any successful teaching business.
So today, I’m going to break it all down for you and tell you how to write the best vision statement, so you can have, not only a successful teaching business but a teaching business that will start off on the right path and that will last forever.
And without further adieu, let’s go 👇🏾.
Step 1: Visualize Your Teaching Business Vision Statement
How are you going to get to the end goal if you don’t know where your going??? The very first step in any business plan, life plan, or any form of goal setting is to visualize what you want out of life. Don’t just think about money or material things, but everything from health and wellness to work/business goals to personal things you want to accomplish. Really get clear on what you want and be ready to take action in Step 2.
Step 1: Get Your Materials Together For Your Teaching Business Vision Statement
One of the very 1st things you need to do when trying to craft your teacher business vision statement is gather all the things you need in order to be successful and start this off on the right path.
So below I have come up with a list of things that I gathered when I wrote my vision statement. The goal is to write a very well crafted vision, but no one ever said it couldn’t be aestically pretty as well.
Ok, so now that you have your list. Let me break down why you need some of these things.
-Pretty pens are self-explanatory. Everything just flows better with pretty looking pens.
-Highlights are optional but necessary to highlight some of the most important things in your vision statement.
-A notepad to write a rough draft copy of your vision, because who doesn’t mess up when their writing??
-Laptop/iPad for typing your vision statement in a Google docs or another doc program.
-Poster Boards for writing some important key facts for your vision statement to hang on a wall in your house somewhere (we need to see our vision daily and remember why we started our journey to creating our business in the 1st place).
-Pictures will allow you to elaborate on your vision statement and allow you to fully immerse yourself in your vision when you have a visual picture of all you wants, dreams and desires.
Now that you have all your materials, let’s move onto to Step 2.👇🏾
Step 2: Write an Outline For Your Teaching Business Vision
Now is the time to write an outline draft copy of your vision statement. Use your pretty pen and notepad or open a Google doc and just start typing. Your outline is simply key bullet points that you want to make sure you hit when you actually write/type out your vision. Keep the bullet points to a maximum of 6 and if you want you can include some of the points that I have listed below:
Step 3: Write Your Vision
Now is the time to sit down and craft your teaching vision statement. You want to be in a calm environment that allows you to think clearly and vision the life that you want in all aspects. Get a cup of coffee, or tea and sit down in your favorite spot in your house or a local coffee shop. Take a deep breath and start typing out your vision.
Keep in mind that writing our your vision might take some time. It shouldn’t be something that you try and get down in 15 minutes. Take your time because your ultimately crafting out the rest of your life (because this vision will come to life).
When you’re done with writing your vision, your now ready for the final and last step.
Make sure you look over your vision statement after you have to typed out to insure that you haven’t missed any key parts.
Step 4: Put Key Sentences from Your Teaching Business Vision onto Poster Board
The last step in this entire process is to put some key sentences from your vision onto poster board. If you don’t have poster board just put it on regular paper.
The point of putting some key sentences from your vision on poster/paper is to hang it up in your house somewhere that you could see every day. The reason why this is so important is because, starting a business is hard (trust me I should know being that I’m still in the beginning phases of mine). You will undoubtedly have some rough days, weeks, or even mouths where your questioning why you even started your business and how pointless this is because your not seeing any money or any growth. But you have to keep in mind that if it were meant to be easy then everyone would be doing it. The people that take small actionable consistent steps everyday for the long haul are the people that succeed.
Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant didn’t become super stars over night. They worked at the craft for so many years and even when they became big they still worked on their craft everyday.
Step 5: Regularly Look Back At Your Vision Statement
The last thing that you want to do is write your vision statement and never look back at it. Now thats not to say that you should be looking at it every day, but occasionally you want to reread what you wrote so that you can keep a reminder about where your trying to go.
Now is the time to hang up your vision in your house that you can reference to and look at often to remember why you started this in the first place. It will keep you progressing and pushing forward to have occasional reminders about your end goal.
